Prof. Derek O’Keeffe, one of the inaugural winners of the Clinical Innovation Award, speaks about his prize winning innovation “HapNav”, a wrist worn device that helps blind people to navigate a room using ultrasonic ranging and haptic feedback. Delving into the adaptation process, Prof. O’Keeffe explains the trials and tribulations that came along with his success. He also reflects on the importance of collaboration in his innovative development, specifically in his HIVE (Health Innovation Via Engineering) Lab. Prof. O’Keeffe advises on humility and passion while providing counsel and guidance from his own experience and triumph with the Clinical Innovation Award.
