Brief

Michael Lockhart graduated with an honours medical degree from Trinity College Dublin in 2016. He completed his medical internship in Tallaght University Hospital, and Basic Specialist Training in Internal Medicine between Our Lady’s Hospital Navan, Beaumont Hospital and Connolly Hospital Blanchardstown. He is now in the final year of his training as an Endocrinology, Diabetes Mellitus and Internal Medicine Specialist Registrar (SpR). He is currently working as a Diabetic Foot Disease Research Fellow in Galway University Hospitals, having also worked clinically as an SpR in St. Luke’s Hospital Kilkenny, Beaumont Hospital and Connolly Hospital Blanchardstown.

He is concurrently undertaking a medical research doctorate (MD) with the University of Galway. The title of his MD thesis is “Wearable Pressure-Sensing Insoles in the Prevention of Diabetic Foot Disease”. Michael is passionate about the prevention of the complications of diabetes mellitus, with a special interest in the prevention and treatment of diabetic foot disease and digital health. He has been working with the HIVE lab since September 2023.
